Cojean62, I have had a port since I've been 8 and I'm now 23. After the surgery it does hurt for a while but it goes away. Ports have to be flushed once a month with saline and heprine. Make sure for the first 6months or so you put emla numing cream on the sight about a hour before you flush...

Mine runs between 65 to 68 when I'm well. When I'm sick (like right now) they run between 45 to 60.

Hi Tori, It shouldn't matter who suggests it your insurance should still pay cause your doc still admitted you. Good luck!!
