Hi,
My son has a upper respiratory virus and sore throat. He is not coughing but is productive during his airway clearance (huff coughing and vest). I'm curious...What is your clinic's protocol for treating with antibiotics when you or your child has an upper respiratory infection?
Thanks,
Tom
My son had his first hospitalization in Feb and they placed a PICC upon admission. He is 12 yrs old and he didn't have any issues with the placement. The team was great and the PICC was the best choice - easy to access, no soreness (except for the first day) and allowed us to leave after a...
My son's prescription for Kalydeco was filled and delivered approximate 5 weeks from the FDA approval date. The case managers at Vertex handle all of the insurance issues (if there are any). We did not have any problems with our insurance and it has changed 4 times since 2012. My son is...
taking kalydeco for 18 months
My son has been taking Kalydeco for about 18 months now and all that I can say is he is a completely different person. He is 9 years old and in the past year alone he has gained 16 pounds, grown about 5 inches, FEV1 has gone from 92 - 102, hardly needs to take...
My son has stopped pulmozyme, hts, vest and has drastically reduced his enzymes while continuing to gain weight. All of these changes have been evaluated and approved by his cf docs. This happened over a course of 3 months. No exacerbations and cultures have improved.
Our doc did discuss Urso again, but as of right now he is not going back on it. At this point, my son is only taking Kalydeco and enzymes. All other CF meds are not being prescribed unless needed (Pulmozyme, hypertonic saline, antibiotics, etc).

The doctor called about yesterday's recheck. My son's liver enzymes are back in the normal range. At this point we have no explanation. We will recheck in two weeks.

Kalydeco - liver enzymes are elevated
Prior to Kalydeco my son liver enzymes were at the upper limit of normal. However, this test was done in Aug 2011. He did not have a blood test immediately before starting Kalydeco to get a baseline. So we are unclear if this is from Kalydeco or not...
