I have not had an EGD, but I went with my mom when she had one. They did what they call conscious sedation with her, which to my knowledge is what they usually do. When doing conscious sedation, you aren't technically "out", but you don't really care whats going on and you don't really remember...

I doubt that it would make much of a difference. If you were completely covered with a bunch of blankets, then it may raise a little bit, but I don't think that just the heating pad would.

I think a lot of people don't want to offend their doctors and nurses by questioning their actions and reasoning behind what they do. I am guilty of this also. I do trust them, but I know that mistakes can happen. As a nurse, I am never offended when the patients or family members ask questions...
