ABPA treatment

I'm interested to know how people are treated for this.Are steroids the only way to lower IgE levels?I'm constantly on prednisolone and now that my IgE levels have risen, the docs are going to up my dosage. I've tried Itraconazole and it does nothing for me.Any replies appreciated.anon

the only treatment is prednisolone and itraconazole. how much itraconazole were you on? you need to be on it for a fair while at about 400 mg a day to be effective. ive read on some sites that deflazacort [is that right?] is used in europe instead of prednisolone for inflammatory conditions. apparently it has less side effects but its only available in europe. ive also read about inhaled anti fungals etc but apparently its not very effective.

Hi, I battled ABPA for 4 yrs. The steriods are the main treatment, unfortunately. If you have a lot of problems with the prednisone, maybe you could try medrol, another steriod. How long were you on the itraconazale for? It usually takes at least 6 mos. to work, or at least that's what they told me. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I was last on steriods for ABPA 5 years ago, and it has been under control ever since <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> Just out of curiosity, what was your IgE? Mine went as high 1700 at one point. Good Luck~ Mary

Please excuse my ignorance here, but is Intraconazole the same thing as Sporonex?

Amphotericin (I'm butchering the spelling) worked wonders for me - totally wiped it out. They put you on steroids to treat it by helping to open up your airways so you can cough it out - if 30 days on the steroids doesn't work, they should give you any number of anti-fungal treatments that are available. -Piperpmcp@comcast.net

yep, itraconazole is sporanox.
