ADEK Vitamins

Hello...I am new to these boards. I have an unusual
request...and I hope I do not get flamed for this....

I do not suffer from CF. However, I have had a weight loss
surgery procedure called the Duodenal Switch. It has a
malabsorption component that makes the surgery work (it shortens
the length of the small intestines allowing for less absorption).
This procedure has saved my life. I have gone from 432
pounds to 163 pounds in the past 2 years and my life is now full
for the first time in many years and many of my health problems
have gone away.

However, this has created a new set of problems. After taking
out expensive loans to pay for my surgery, I find myself having
problems affording the expensive cocktail of vitamins I must take
everyday. Among them are the ADEK vitamins, since I no longer
properly absorb the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.

My humble request is if anyone has or gets the ADEK vitamins that
they do not need if they would be willing to donate them to me, or
offer them at a reduced cost. I hope this does not result in
being flamed on this board because it is very humbling to have to
come on here and post this. I appreciate your understanding
and your kindness. God bless.

Hi, I am a DSer also, 2003. We dont absorb the fat solubles just like the CFers so I have gained lots of information from one of the CF drs that I work with.
As far as vits, I understand your dilema. I find that buying my A, D, E and K separately has helped alot. I can get Dry D in 5000 or 50000 iu and dry Vit A in 25000 iu, I require large amts so these large doses have helped alot. E and K can be easily picked up. I always supplement my vits or mins separately so I can control the dosage better.
Good luck. great wt loss, you have done great. Are your D and A levels doing okay? joy
