adult diagnosis

I am the parent of a 6 year old who has cystic fibrosis.

I know thatit is rare for an adult to be diagnosed with CF, but I do know that it has happened, and I am starting to wonder if I should ask for the blood test to get myself checked.

It's jsut that a lot of the digestive issues that are brought up at clinic for her...I seem to be experiencing lately. I also seem to be losing weight a lot lately...which most women would be thankful for (and I am) but it's weird to me. I was 183 pounds when I foung out I was pregnant with my last baby. She just turned 7 months old and I am 151 lbs.

I am just wondering if I could go to the doctor and ask to be tested or if they will think I am nuts...

oh and I did not gain one pound with my pregnancy so it's not like I lost a lot of baby weight or anything...When I went in to have her I was 2 pounds less than when I found out I was pregnant with her.

I was late diganose with CF at the age of 33yrs old. But at dxs with Asthma at four years.
I don't have any digestive problems.
However there is different variations of CF and CF mutations and alot of people being dx's in their Adulthood life and I dont think there would be a problem asking for the test.
It could maybe you are feeling very stressed at the moment but get yourself checked out by your doctor asap.
Let me know how it goes.

I was dx at age 47. We know for a fact that you are a carrier, the only question would be the second defective gene.

Not only is it reasonable for you ask to be tested, it is something that all parents of CF children should do.

You should be going to a CF Clinic, have them do a full CF scan.

I was diagnosed at 21, after being misdiagnosed with chronic bronchitis (sp?) and asthma...so I don't think it would be nuts to ask! I am 34 now, and while CF is progressive it progresses differently for all of us. So it is possible to be diagnosed as an adult and according to my adult cf doctor; she says it is not as uncommon as it was -- because of all of the new genes and the realization that CF does not have a "typical" presentation. (Meaning that since it progresses differently for all of us, there really is not a "typical" presentation. Mainly this is because more and more adults are being diagnosed.)
