Advair

I have been doing advair for a while now and have the Disc powder version, don't know if you can get it other ways. Anyway, I notice when I inhale this lots of times it seems the powder just sticks to the back of my mouth or throat. It this normal, I have always wondered how much of the powder is actually making it into my lungs. Anyone else have this problem, know if this is normal, or if I am not inhaling this properly. Thanks.

I take the Symbicort turbo inhaler, and when I inhale I find that I can taste it in the back of my throat. This is why you are supposed to rinse with water afterwards to prevent thrush. I think the powder you taste is just excess that never went down into your lungs.

Yep, I agree with Liz and Amy. I get the powdery feeling too, but I just swish with some water afterward, sometimes garggle, and that takes care of it. Sometimes I brush my teeth afterward just to make sure. Believe me, you don't want thrush...>_<

Try inhaling fast and hold your breath afterwards. I use to feel the powder but since I inhale fast and hold I have no feeling of the powder. I use Biotene mouth wash afterward and never got thrush. Pink tongue here<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

actually i was told by a respiratory therapist that you should not inhale it quickly, but rather medium-paced & steady, so that it does reach your lungs--not too slow, not too fast. she said inhaling it too quickly is what makes it stay in your throat/mouth area.

I was told not to inhale quickly as well. That it should be medium paced and steady as well so that you get more into your lungs and deeper.
