Advil usage

I know that some people on here take advil/ibuprofen for pain everyday but I was wondering if anyone takes it for inflamation. I notice a huge difference if I take 4 advil in my inflamation, especially if I am sick. It really means the difference between breathing and feeling like I am suffocating. How bad would that affect me if I take it everyday? What are the side effects. I was JUST at the doctor and of course now am thinking of all these things I didn't ask.

My sons Doctor actually thought about putting him on a high dose of Ibuprofen on a daily basis, because of a study that was conducted where people who took it long term, I say long term meaning like 4-5 years straight had some very good effects to their lungs. You might ask your Dr about this study and see if it would benefit you.

The Ibuprofen is used as Victoria said. I would guess that someone with a history of hemoptysis wouldnt be a good candidate for it, but those who I have conversed with that are on it feel a difference.

You took the words out of my mouth, Mel. Exactly what Mel said - I would never take that stuff daily as I get hemoptasis easily. But not everyone is like that, of course, so it could be a decent option for some...

I get bleeds to so I watch when I take it. I don't think the Advil really causes the bleeds though. However, if you're about to have one and don't know it or you recently had one, it will make them worse.

Just a side note - I took advil for about 3-4 years, approx. 4 days a week due to back pain. Just so you know, that much for that long caused me to have a minor kidney failure. I didn't notice any effects from this until a few particular days last year. I became nauseous out of the blue, felt like I could sleep 24/7 and my lower back felt bruised inside. This might be rare, but I think it's important to keep an eye on and have your doctor check kidney levels (and whatever else could be effected) while taking high doses for an extended time.

I have heard many people who haven't had these kidney issues while taking high doses of advil, so it's just something to be aware of.
