Or anyone with experience in this-

I'm leaving for a warm climate in a few days. Right now I'm not on any antibiotic. My doc says I don't need to be on anything when I go away, but she wants me to bring Augmentin and Cipro in case I get sick while being away. (my most frequently used oral meds)

I am always on Zithromx for the antiinflammatory properties, but I don't really count that as a antibiotic treatment currently. (But it may give me some protection.)

So once when I was maybe 16 or so I went to the beach while on I think Augmentin-and got an awful skin sun reaction. That has never happened since, but the sun is very strong in Dubai, so I want to be careful.

Do you have any info as to which of the 2 meds may be safer in the sun? I mean, I'm in tip top shape now, so hopefully I won't need em, but oh man-I don't want to be stuck indoors in Dubai!!!! Any suggestions at all appreciated!

Max was put on Cipro a few weeks ago for an upper respiratory infection and the product literature specifically talks about photosensitivity. So I slathered him in Hawaiian Tropic Sunblock -- 45 or 60 and put a hat on him. No problem.

He's been on augmentin before and there wasn't a problem. Was on it for almost a month last spring/summer for a sinus infection. He spends a lot of time outside in the afternoons at daycare and they put sunscreen on all the kids.

I used to get horrible ichty rashes from Cipro and being in the sun. I found that if I wore sunscreen and wore a hat I was fine.

Many of the oral antibiotics we take make us extremely sensitive to the sun. If you need to start them pay even more attention to sunblock (not sunscreen) then you would normally & of course keep hydrated!

Yes, try and not mix Cipro and Sun- not only does your skin get really sensitve and burn easily but you get wiped out.
I live in S. Florida and when I am on Cipro I stay indoors-

What up

The quinoloneclass of antibiotics (cipro, levaquin, avelox, tequin, factive) can all cause phototoxicity. I look like I'm straight out of Ireland (freckles and all) so Cipro + sun = lobster for me.

Zithromax doesn't case phototoxicity - it's not on the package insert nor have I ever heard of patients experiencing this.

Augmentin doesn't show phototoxicity either.
