Anorexia and Bulimia with CF I have never heard of that?? I have CF and I'm only a few pounds under weight. I am in the Akron area and everyone that I know that has CF has a "G" tube for fube feeds because the are under weight. I know that being on meds can make you gain more weight but never so bad to lead to an eating disorder. How often does that happen? I have just been told that I have CFRD to and I didn't gain hardly any weight maybe at most 3 pounds. Someone else typed that they gained weight with CFRD after getting insiln I have been on insiln for about 2 months. Am I not doing something right if I didn't gain much weight?Thank you!!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif" border="0">

Hi, I am a cf patient with cf related diabetes ( 23 years now) and ill give you an example of what went on when i was diagnosed. before i was diagnosed with diabetes i weighed about 132 pounds ( a bit chunky for my height 5'4) . I rapidly lost a lot of weight and went down to 102 pounds and was finally diagnosed with diabetes. Once i was on isulin i went up to about 118 pounds . The reason you can gain weight while on insulin is because your body is able to process what is going into it properly ( or near to properly) . Insulin itself will not help you gain weight. It helps the body to utilize glucose( sugar) properly. It is very hard to balance everything you need to when you have cf and diabetes. Whether it be diet, exercise, or whatever else, you just need to get yourself into some sort of routine that works for you. Try to keep your blood sugar as steady as you can to normal. Sneak in calories whenever you can, whether it be adding extra butter to something, extra cream to coffee, that sort of thing. I eat a LOT of dairy, i love cheeses of almost all kinds and it is not only beneficial in the weight gain/maintain dept., it is also loaded with calcium. Eventually you will find some tricks of your own to help you gain an extra pound or two. It took me a long time to figure out diabetes and its ups and downs, and how to adjust to it. Good luck ~ Diane

The thing that is key w/ CFRD is balanced nutrition! Even if you don't pack on the pounds with insulin, at the molecular level your body is absorbing more of what you need. It will take a while for your weight to increase. But remember that you are what you eat, so make sure you high calorie diet is also nutritious.Debbie 22 yr old w/ CF, CFRD, CF osteoperosis
