Hi guys,
Well sorry it has been a while. Thanks for all the concern. I just got home from the hospital last night. Feeling much better thankfully. I started feeling a bit better after I posted last then crashed really hard and caught some viral thing on top of the infection I already had.
The doc admitted me last week. Thank goodness too, I was pretty sick on all accounts. Blood sugars out of control, fevers, weight loss and all.
As of now I have been on 1 week of IV Tobra and Fortaz and was on 1 week of IV Zyvox. They started me on 60 mg prednisone and I have stepped down to 30 as of now. I have 1 more week of IV Tobra and Fortaz too complete then I go back in for a breathing test and xray before they decided to continue with the antibiotics or end them.
I do have great news though. Well I am excited about it ... in fact I cried when the doc told me I was so happy. They have been treating me for MRSA/ORSA (whichever you want to call it) for about the past 7-8 years. I have been on contact isolation everytime I have been in the hospital in that time. In the past few years they have been treating m with Vanco and Zyvox (they alternate those two with each hospitalization). Well with my culture this time around (which I gave before I started any IV meds) they said I am still growing Staph but it is no longer considered MRSA. It is sensitive to drugs other than Vanco and Zyvox now. Soooo they took me off the heavy duty Zyvox and put me on an oral form of penicillin for 2 more weeks and said that if I have 2 more cultures that show this less resistant form of Staph then I can ultimately be taken off of contact isolation. I am just so happy that the Staph is sensitive to more meds now, it will make the treatment and management so much easier.
Other than that I am feeling much better. I have been hoarse because of all the meds but am vastly improved froma week ago. Breathing is so much easier and I am barely coughing and when I do I cough once and get the junk up versus coughing till I am blue in the face and still no relief. Also good news, my blood sugars have steadied now that I am getting over the infection (even though I am taking the prednisone). I go in a few weeks to talk to my endocrinologist about an insulin pump and am totally psyched about that. Only having to stick myself once every 3 days vs 4-6 times a day or more.
Well I will stop babbling now. I just wanted to let you all know that I was okay. I have not dropped off the face of the planet. Thank you so much for the concern too I really do appreciate it . Ahhh it is glad to be back and feeling good .
Take Care guys I will be around the house doing nothing the next week or so and will keep you all posted.
