Anyone ever had this happen?

So on Friday I had a bronchoscopy, no biggie had them before will have them again. Well previous to this I've been having sinus problems... Anyway Friday night I started running fevers. While I know a fever within a 24 hour period of a bronch is normal, I've been having continuous fevers since Friday night (101, 102, 101.7, etc), nausea, headaches, drainage, stuffy nose (polyps).. So I've been miserable all weekend, went to NYC on Saturday and wished somebody would just shoot me to put me out of my misery on Sunday. (I did call my tx services who prescribed me an antibiotic which I haven't been able to fill given it's memorial day weekend)

Which leads me to today. I started to brush my teeth and noticed that on my tongue I had a thick layer of stuff (gunk for lack of a better term), I've eaten maybe half of a calzone since friday so I highly doubt that that had anything to do with the gunk. Plus I'm pretty sure I've had it before, especially while on antibiotics. Anywho... I started to brush my tongue and was getting it pretty thoroughly (way back in the mouth) when I pulled out my toothbrush to spit. Well along with the toothbrush came a big gob of mucus, not on the toothbrush but you know.. like trailing it. Anyway rinsed and started brushing again, did the same thing brushed the tongue and it happened again. I figure it's probably drainage from my nose, but I have never ever heard of this happening before.. and was just wondering if anybody else has. Or can shed light on it in case I'm completely wrong. And sorry to those of you who this grosses out (it does me too).

Is it possible it is Thrush. I have gotten thrush in recent years when I have been on antibiotics. At first my throat gets scratchy and then my tongue starts to get a whitish coating on it - it is practically impossible to brush off with a toothbrush. Then after a few days if left untreated I get a sore throat. It can get painful to swallow and red with white patches if you don't get anything for it. At least it can with me (happened the first time I had it).

In the past my docs have prescribed a weeks worth of diflucan to take 1 a day. They have also given me mycelex when I have been in the hospital. mycelex is a dissolvable tablet that you take 4 times a day. Doesn't taste bad - I was a bit hesitant to try it at first but it is like sucking on a citrus/calcium tablet or something.

I will add all the symptoms you have don't come along with thrush when I have it, but the layer of mucus/white junk on the tongue and the correlation with antibiotics do go along with it for me.

Hope you start feeling better.

Sounds like thrush to me. I've had it several times. I would call doc. tomorrow to get antifungal. If left untreated, it can go into esophagus and you could have a really bad problem on your hands. I hope it gets better soon.

I've been on mycelex before.
The thing about this that makes me think that it's not thrush is the fact that it brushes away. I've always heard that thrush is nearly impossible to brush away. Anyway I have a doc. appointment tomorrow so i'll definitely bring up the thrush angle then.

Sounds like thrush to me too. Thrush is gross! Josh gets it every time he's on a new med. Nystatin rinse works quickly, but we also do acidophilus pills every day to avoid bad outbreaks. It has helped.

Good luck

OMG I have had this & "figured" it was coming from my sinuses. It would be green & gross. It didnt happen often enough to worry about, but it would leave a nasty taste in my mouth. One time after a glob from my throat "broke loose" I almost gagged because it caught me off guard. IMO I dont think its thrush. I believe its Sinus related!
