Anyone experienced unexplained weight gain

My daughter, who is 16 w/cf, has gained 10lb in one week. Which would be an exciting thing if she ate, but she is a lousey eater. She has CFRD and her sugar levels have been good, mainly because she hasn't been eating that much and what she does eat isn't enough to do anything, i.e., a slice of bread with vegetables. That is about the most she has eaten. So I am not for sure where this weight came from and how fast it came from. She stays away from any meat products or milk products. She is extremely lactose intolerant. Any suggestions or similiar stories would be so good. She is so upset because, one she is a teenager, two she is uncomfortable with all this weight gain so fast for no apparant reason. Her weight was pretty good prior to this so now this makes her feel according to her words "fat." Therefore, sort of worried that she will truly not eat well.

Thank you all so much. Take care.

Sincerely,

Christi (mom to three teenagers, one with CF)

Has she already hit puberty? First thing I thought of was that "boost" before the womanhood hit. That is a large amount of weight in a short period of time with no real trying. I would ??? it definitely. Just because her "sugars" read ok which from what you said is due to the eating habits doesnt mean its not CFRD realted. I am just trying to think of things that would cause such a quick increase. New meds?

I have had that problem since I hit puberty. I got tested for anything but I was in the clear. I could easily gain 10 pounds in a week. I think that some CFers just do that. We all have crazy weight problems. Unless she is on predisone, which would completely explain it, I wouldn't worry too much if the doctor said she is fine. The only thing I can say to maybe make her feel a little better is that with me I would gain the ten pounds in a week and then not gain anything at all for the rest of the year.
