This subject was brought up by someone a few months ago when the news first came out that Arizona was cutting lung transplants from their Medicade budget.

Thought some may be interested in reading the latest.

Last year I was suffering from lungs Pulmonary embolism. It is a blood clot. In It is a blockage in an artery in the lung. It is usually due to a blood clot that has traveled to the lung from another part of the body, usually the leg.

I just found an article online that says Gov. Jan Brewer restored AHCCS funding for lung transplants on April 1st 2011.
As far as I know, that is still the case.
However, AZ. has only one transplant team. The University of Arizona (where I had my TX) is no longer doing lung TX. They are still offering after care for the TX patients they have, but currently are not accepting any new patients.
Last I was told, St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix has a TX team & are currently performing lung TX. If anyone wants their number, I have it. Just let me know & I'll be happy to help.
The Mayo Clinic in Phoenix is performing TX along with Banner Good Samaritan. I have Good Samaritan's number, but not the Mayo Clinic's.

Lung transplantation, or pulmonary transplantation is a surgical procedure in which a patient's diseased lungs are partially or totally replaced by lungs which come from a donor. While lung transplants carry certain associated risks, they can also extend life expectancy and enhance the quality of life for end-stage pulmonary patients
