Augmenten

My daughter started this today for a cough. This is the first time "treating" anything CF related. She has always cultured staph but this is the first time she's had any symptoms. What can I expect? Her dr told me Augmenten can give really bad diarrhea. I don't want her to lose any weight........any suggestions? Is the diarrhea that common of a reaction?

My daughter has been on this quite a few times and has never had diarrhea, so your daughter could get lucky too <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I've been on that several times for sinus infections, and don't remember ever having really adverse side effects with it. <img src="i/expressions/rose.gif" border="0">

My son with CF goes on this when he gets any kind of infection. His CF is mild but the Augmentin does give him diarrhea. Not too bad though just goes a little more than usual and it is runny. Once the meds are stopped, it goes away. Unfortunatly this happens with alot of antibiotics but some kids don't have the side effect at all. They are all different.

My 21 month old was on this a month or so ago and she had some diarrhea (more like mushy poops, not the runny kind) right away which lasted until we took her off it. I give her probiotics whether she is on antibiotics or not, but when she is on them, I double her probiotics during and for 2 weeks afterwards to help boost the good bacteria in her digestive system that get killed by antibiotcs...

My five yo doughter got Augumentin just last week. She didn't has diarrhea, but her apetite goes up! carmenada

My ds has been on Augmentin way too many times to count (he's 7.) The only time it really caused diarrhea or affected his appetite was the first time he was on it at 7 months old. Now, he can even tolerate high doses - 900 mg BD with no problem. He's 43 #. HTH>
