Aztreonam Update...not too much to report

I was reading through some other posts and I realized that someone was asking about AZLI.

NO it did not get approved...and they WILL be doing a retrial of the drug. The news I heard is that they will also be looking at how AZLI affects cepacia (in addition to the PA it was originally developed for).

I dont know when that trial will be starting though. My clinic's research department has been very busy with all of the new trials and the coordinator did not know anything else.

Anyone have anything else to add?

I have been in the AZLI study for several months for PA infection and can say it works great and is a very fast treatment! It has increased my FEV1 and 02 saturation! However, it's 28 days on and 28 days off and when I am off of it, I feel like crap! Wish I could take it all the time without worrying about resistance. I really hope they'll approve this drug soon b/c it really does help a lot!! You have to be willing to put in the extra effort though b/c I have been told I can not do it when I do all my other nebs. You have to wait a few hours after doing a bronchodilator and it's 3 times a day. Some people can't handle that schedule but if you are in desperate need like I was, then you'll make time for it. I look forward to the month I'm on it b/c I know I'll be feeling better.

Instead of pitting azli against tobi, why don't they do a study stating that many people can't use tobi cause of the side effect?!? I think its ridiculous they're wasting time and money trying to see how it "stacks up". For several of us, TOBI is not even an option, so if it works better in the trial and because of that azli is denied, it helps NO ONE. Urgh...
