BAD FIRST- PFT's were not to good. My FEV1/FVC are 71%. What is considered "really" bad? PFT numbers still confuse me a bit.

Chest x-ray looked okay. Nothing real serious.

GOOD NEWS- I was pleasantly surpised how painless the mole removal was. Hardly any pain at all.

SOOO....now we wait for the DNA results. He put me on a new inhaler called Albuterol/Ipratropium. Said it might work better than the regular Albuterol.

Still not sure what is wrong with the knee. Doc said the x-rays looked good. Said it is probably a tendon problem that will take a few weeks to heal.

I'm anxious for you to get the dna results. Even after I was dx'd with CF part of me was relieved to finally know the answer. I hope you get answers soon; so that you can feel better.

BTW~Hows the knee??

DS is on it -- also called duo neb -- albuterol and atrovent mixed together. One is fast acting/short term the other drug lasts a bit longer.

The PFT being lower could be "simple" inflammation from allergies or asthma. Glad the mole was easy, sorry that the knee doesnt have answers. As far as what "bad" pft's are.....I think it depends on tthe doctor and what your quality of life is.

FEV1 and FVC are two different numbers and mean two different things. The FEV1 is the more important #. You could just have allergies or symptoms of being a CF carrier: http://www3.nbnet.nb.ca/normap/CFcarriersymptoms.htm which could result in your lung capacity to temporarily lower. Once you get on the appropriate meds for your issue I suspect your FEV1 to go back up to normal.

Thanks for all the kind words and advice!

Cowtown....can you explain this to me more.

This is what my PFT paperwork says:

FVC-4.219
FEV1-3.488
FEV1/FVC-71%
FEF25-75%-2.344
PEF-5.596

What does all of this mean??

Thanks!
