Premmies or other health issues is a different story. BUT health newborns, just take normal precautions that everyone should.

I have always been around babies. I just wash my hands alot and not cough around them when I go see the newborns. But I held my nephew the night he was born...only a few minutes old. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

The only ones I didn't go near for 6 weeks were my friends twins who were born early and lots of health issues. No one was really allowed over for the first 6 weeks.

Hi,

When I was in nursing school, I specialized in labor/delivery and postpartum nursing. I was around babies ALL the time. There should be no risk to the baby if it's a healthy newborn. If it's a premie or compromised in any way, I would be more cautious.

I had the same question recently. I was concerned about me getting sick from the baby and/or the baby getting sick from me. As long as neither of you are sick - everything should be fine, but like everyone has said, wash your hands a lot to be safe. If either of you are sick, I'd stay away.
