Just so you know, as long as its not been opened/ i.e. the pills haven't been like popped out of their little plastic things, the pharmacy has to take it back.

Especially if you get the new Rx from your doctor first and bring it in with the wrong Rx

this happened to me last month

noooooooooooooooooooooooooo, It is ILLEGAL for a pharmacy to take back any RX medications once dispensed to a patient and the patient leaves the pharmacy and/or sight of the pharmacist. If the pharmacy made a fill error then they have to take the med back but DISPOSE of it and give you the correct medication. If your doctor made the error and it wasn't caught while you were still inside the pharmacy, you are out of luck.

I will tell you though, you aren't the only one this has happened to-I've done it on a few occasions.

Ok Julie, that's what I was originally told.

Well, I'm out $15. I guess I'll survive. But that $15 could have bought me a few yummy latte's at Starbucks

This is tricky depending on what state you live in. It is not Illegal for a pharmacy to take back Rx's for disposal, but it is illegal for the pharmacy to REDISPENSE meds that have been brought back that have left the pharmacists sight.

Many pharmacies don't accept returned meds for disposal because there is no clear procedure for what to do with them disposal wise, and pharmacists have to pay for the disposal themselves. Some will take back hazardous drugs for diposal (like cancer drugs).
