Black and Blue Marks

Hi,

So, I've noticed in the past couple of days I've had small black and blue marks and bruises up and down my legs. They're not even the "normal" places, like when you bump your knee... they're mostly on my calves, shins, and just sides of my legs. Almost all are below my knees and there are maybe a total of 3-4 on each leg.

So, has anyone had this happen? What causes this? I'm not taking aspirin or ibuprofren, or anything else that I know causes blood thinning. I just recently flown on an airplane for a one-hour flight, so can't imagine that had anything to do with it. I've also been running again (first time in a couple weeks), but I think they appeared before that.

So, what do you think? They don't hurt, but are just odd.

Thanks,
Sonia

You know funny you should ask. I've just noticed about 3 little bruises below my knees the other day, and I have no idea where they came from. I haven't banged myself or anything either. They're all on my shins, but they don't really hurt at all if I touch them. I know I've put on some weight in the past week - I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Vitamin C helps with bruising. Taking prednisone can cause bruising.

You can use a homeopathic gel called Arnica Montana. This is AWESOME For brusing.

About nine years ago I slipped on some food in Whole Foods and fell on the floor. I asked them for Arnica and I never got a black and blue and I really fell hard on my A$$
ouch.

It works great when you first bang yourself up but if you already have brusies they will help them go away that much faster.

If you ever have a dull pain from back pain or muscle pain Arnica pills are great. You just put a few under your tongue and they taste delicious.

For homeopathic remedies you need to space them around meals and brushing your teeth.

These products really helped me through the years.

Hmmmm.... I already take vit C everyday, and I'm not on steriods... may try the homeopathic stuff if they become too much of a bother. I am curious about the iron thing.... I just had my panel done at clinic, so I'll be able to know if I'm defficient within the next week or two.

Thanks,
Sonia

As another person has said, medications can do that...If you are on prednisone, that one is a biggy. I had bruises everywhere from that one. Another consideration, how are your vitamin levels doing? Especially ADEK, particularly Vit. K. If you are deficient in Vit K. then you will bruise a lot easier too. Even more far off, is your liver functioning well? The liver helps with clotting factors, if it doesn't function well, you will bruise as well. So, you see..there are alot of reasons why you might bruise. Keep a close eye on it and if it seems like it is getting worse, don't hesitate to talk to your doc about it. I hope I have helped...hugs, Jenn <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hey Sonia long time no talky.
I get small bruises on my legs all the time. Sometimes they hurt when touched sometimes not. I cant for the life of me think of what i did to get them. I have been told many things....low iron...some kind of vitamin is lacking....even low cirulations...even low blood sugars can cause easy bruising. I find it weird though that i only have these bruises on my legs mostly. Sometimes I get the bruising alot more than others. The only real thing you can do is ask your doctor about them. Wait till your next clinic. But if it gets real bad, the brusing gets bigger, hurts alot...spreads to other parts than just your legs....call asap. If its really bothering you call anyway. For me I just think I am a big clutz most of the time. I might have low cirulation due to lack of exersise.

Hi,

I don´t want to scare anyone, but I have read, that these symtoms can show up with leukemia, so I would suggest a visit at your clinic and a bloodtest, just to be on the save side.

Hi Sonia it could be any one of the listed things or it just could be something that you did in your sleep. Many times I've woken up and noticed bruses on my body in various place. Or if I sleep wrong the night before and because I'm so boney lying on my slides the bones dig into me and I will get a bruse. So it could just be from sleeping, because you really don't know exactly what your doing in your sleep. You could accidentally bang you legs together too hard without realizing it, and if your boney like me you would probable bruse from that. I know I would! I hope this will help you out on finding out what is causing your brusing.
