Black strands in Mucus

Every now and then (like every 2 weeks or so) I find a small black strand in my mucus. It looks like a little piece of thread. I have the nasal drip thing going on so I think it comes from both my lungs and nose. And I've never smoked and I'm never around any smokers so that can't be the reason. I know it's gross but I was just wondering if anybody else had this and curious as to what it is...

I used to occasionally get a wee bit of blue/black in my mucus and it turned out to be that i was culturing aspergillus. I no longer get them and i no longer culture it either.
