Bloody nose

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has problems with bloody noses? Is it CF related or possibly dry air? My son is 2 and just started a new anti biotic and the next morning we woke with a bloody nose for the first time ever. He hasn't had one since, but it's been nagging at me to what may have caused it. Thanks!

my son gets bloody noses all the time. It usually happens in the middle of the night, I went to get him out of bed one morning and his face and pillow were covered in blood-----I was horrifed at first. His CF doctor says the dry air in the winter and the fact that he rubs his face on the pillow at night can cause bloody noses. he has never had one while on antibiotics, yet. Does your son have polyps? My son actually has more bloody noses since his polyps, tonsils, and adenoids were removed.

He hasn't had any polyps, so I didn't know if that was some kind of sign that he was getting them. It is absolutely frightening to see their blood for the first time. He is a busy boy, but so far hasn't had any cuts, so seeing his blood scared me. Now his sister is another story. She's always getting scrapes and cuts, so I'm sure his time for that is coming. I assumed it was the dry air, but just wanted to see if anyone experienced it for another reason.

My 5 year old gets a bloody nose frequently when she's on inhaled Gentamicin, with nearly every treatment. So far that is the only time it happens.

Hi, many times it is the dry air that causes the bloody noses and sometimes it's the finger in the nose because the nose is dry. Have you checked his fingers to see if he's got little blood spots on them? I now it sounds gross but if it's happening at night he probably doesn't even realize he's doing it.

My daughter used to get nose bleeds quite frequently a couple of years ago. She was having really bad sinus problems at the time and come to find out it was her use of Flonase. They quit when she stopped using Flonase. I myself used Flonase and ended up having to quit because it caused my nose to bleed when I blew my nose. Nothing near like Anna though. She poured out at any unexpected moment. Scary even when they are 14 & 15 yrs old.

You might want to mention it to the doctor. Maybe he just needs a little saline to moisten up his nose.

Hi'
I'm a Mom of two teenager daughter 17 & 18 w/CF.

I was was told from our dr. the bloody noses was due to dry noses from the medicine. So we quit doing toby and colistin by mask. Thank God we haven't had one in quite awhile.

They would get them really bad. Sometimes I would think they would never stop.

Oddly enough, I get bloody noses whenever I'm on Vitamin K supplements (and you're supposed to have the exact opposite effect--they prescribe it to *improve* clotting). Perhaps you could ask about adding (or subtracting) it and seeing what happens?

Thanks for your input. Luckily it hasn't happened again, so I am thinking it must have been the dry air. We were staying all night somewhere else. But I am going to start keeping a journal on this stuff so I remember when we get to the Dr office. Thanks again.

My 2yr old has always had a problem with bloody nose. He gets them all the time. I do to though I think it has a lot to do with allergies. If we take him to places where there has been smoke it bleeds. Like out to places that have smoking sections. We don't do that now though cause we would go when they fisrt open to they would not be busy. One time we were the only ones there but a couple at a table on the other side. A bunch of (15) kids came in and they put them next to us and they started smoking. My son started sneezing and hacking. I was mad is not the word for it. We where in the none smoking anyway. I went to the hostess and complained and she told me "oh a little smoke isn't gonna hurt your kid" . I flipped out my other half thought I was about to strangle her.

2sickkids-I know what you're saying about the smoking vs non smoking sections. Last week we were somewhere and the hostess started to lead us by the smoking section. I stopped her and said we need NON smoking. She said oh this is...OK just because there is a half wall up between our table and the next table to us in smoking doesn't make it NON smoking in my opinion. I hunted someone else down and 'demanded' to be moved.

Who has the right to say "a little smoke won't hurt your kid" CF or not!!!!!!!!

Here in Dallas Texas smoking is not allowed in restraunts, thank goodness! Occasionally people will smoke right outside the front door which really pisses me off.
