bronchoscopies

Josh is scheduled to have a bronch tomorrow. (see the whole story on the other post) Last time he had one was during sinus surgery so we're not familiar with the "usual" proceedure and recovery.

Anyone have a story?

I had one done a couple of years ago. They gave me some morphine to dull my sensations, then ended up giving me this LSD type drug that cuts off brain activity so that you don't remember anything about the procedure - almost like you're "out of it" during. I remember waking up about 10 mins after the procedure, and didn't remember a thing. The last thing I remembered was the nurse putting a cloth over my eyes to protect from backsplash. According to my doctor I talking, laughed and cracked jokes throughout the whole procedure, but I don't remember a thing. Very creepy. I don't think your son has anything to worry about. Its a pretty simple procedure, and more likely then not he won't remember a thing! Afterwards though he may feel sick from the meds given to him. I know I threw up all day and couldn't eat anything other then broth and crackers. He'll also cough a bit and may have streaks of blood in his sputum for a couple of days, but its nothing to worry about unless its huge amounts of blood - like a couple of teaspoons or something.

i had two bronchs last year and had no problems with either. they put me out (with general anestecia) and when i woke up it was over. I didn't even cough that much afterwards. The worst part was on the 2nd one they scraped my throat on the way down with the scopes, and when i woke up my throat was dripping blood (visible from opening wide and looking in a mirror). but within 2 or 3 days it felt fine.
i hope everything goes well!

It was fairly easy for Ry too, they drugged him up, and he was cracking jokes thorughout the whole thing. The only bad thing was when he woke up, his throat hurt like hell. And like Liz said, some blood. But otherwise, it wasn't a big deal.

I had one when I was fourteen. I went under general anesthetic so obviously I don't remember what the procedure was like or anything.

I felt fine as soon as I woke up...they gave me a lemonade ice block in recovery because they thought my throat might be hurting - it wasn't but I took the ice block anyway lol!

The anasthetic didn't make me feel sick because I wasn't under for very long. I'd been flown to a hospital in Auckland to have it done and all I wanted to do while I was there was to go shopping...which I did, just hours after I got out of theatre!

The worst bit about it is looking at the photos after...ick!

Hope it all goes well,
Phoebe xx.

Hello Jane

There not a big deal, they give you some of what
I like to call ( Don't give a sh*t meds ) and then You don't.

I Have had about 14 as well as I can remember,
I talk and joke thru the whole thing, and if You ask
they will let you have a look thru the scope....

Good Luck ... <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">
