Bronchoscopy Results

I have bilateral bronchiectasis (no CF) and had a bronchoscopy done a few weeks ago. I don't have all the results yet but the doctor said the results of the biopsy indicate infection only (no tumors or granulomas). 3 cultures were sent to the lab with the following results:

B.A.L. Culture: regular flora
Fungi Culture: Candida Albicans
Myobacterial Culture: no results yet

Is the Candida Albicans from the bronchial wash significant, or is this just something that is typically in the lower respiratory tract?

Thanks in advance for any input you have about this!

40+ female with bilateral bronchiectasis, currently taking Seretide, Nasocort, HTS 5%, and nebulized colistin - all twice a day

I looked this up because it sounded familiar to me but I wasn't sure why. Then looked it up and realized it was something I had experienced before just not in my lungs.

By what I found it is similar to thrush. I don't know if you have been on antibiotics recently but you may havehad atouch of thrush that progressed down into your respiratory tract. Just a thought because I know this can happen as my transplant docs have warned about it and have me taking mycelex once a day to prevent it from happening.

Don't know if that is what the issue is but it isn't basic normal flora. Just thought I would share what I found- at least a little bit of it.

Thanks Robert and Lindsey for your responses.

Yes, I am aware that it's thrush. However, I had never heard of having thrush in the lungs. I'm curious whether it is something of concern and whether it needs any kind of special treatment.

The only antibiotic I've been on over the last two months is the nebulized colistin.
