Can you catch infections?

Hey,
I was wondering if it is possible to catch a chest infection from somebody else? I was at the cinema and there was a guy in the same aisle as me who had a really bad cough. Not a chesty thing, but more like a bark..anyway may sound silly, but is it possible to catch an infection?

Most likely I would say. Depends if they are contagious or not. You know how you have to go through that contagious stage sort of thing. If he were to cough right on you I would say yes.

i think it depends if its virus or not. most things that are contagious are spread through the air, or, most likely, by you touching something they've touched and then touching your eyes, nose, mouth, etc.

My viruses and bacteria aren't airborn - they're on surfaces.

That's why people who wash their hands 8 times a day have 75% less repiratory tract infections than those who don't.

But if you're closer than 3 feet to somebody, and they sneeze, or cough, you can catch something for sure <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

This kind of thing crosses my mind sometimes but i just try to be
vigilant about washing my hands, otherwise I would never leave the
house......
