Cf and Breast Implants

I have a question that I hope all of you can try to help me out with. Im 20 f/with cf Im thinking about getting breast omplants but before i jump into it i wanted to know if it by any chance can affect me (cf) in anyway. Would I be able to get them? A friend of mine got implants at your age, she does not have cf but said the recovery was PAINFUL. I would be sure to let the doc know your situation and put them in touch with your CF doc so they can talk about you special needs if there are any. They may block the view of your lungs on ct scans and x-rays, ask the do, and know that this may make diagnosis and monitering difficult for your cf doc.

you should talk to your cf doctor first, and have him/her in close contact with the clinic where you want to get the implant at.i have quite the opposite issue - i want to get a breast reduction. it's still in planning and i haven't discussed it throughouly with my doc, but i did mention it once. she said that perhaps that would be a bad idea because i already spend a lot of time in hospital and checkups, why would i want to have a surgery voluntarily. my mother said the same thing. doctor didn't say anything about having breasts surgically altered getting in the way of cf.still, before doing anything, consult your doc <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> and good luck <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> on a more personal note - would you mind talking about that? what size do you have now and what do you want? i'm 36D and i want to reduce to a 36B/C. i have a small frame and my boobs look bigger than they actually are. i always wanted to have smaller breasts <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I am a 29 y/o cf from Australia. I am having cosmetic surgery soon. I have a large scar on my stomach from meuconium illius operations as an infant. My doc's are ok with it, but they will be putting me on antibiotics before and after op as general anaesthetic often gives us lung infections or worsens them. If you are not a 'well' cf you might want to consider this as a drawback to the op. It's a big choice, and my boyfriend never complains about my B size breasts! they say any more than a mouthful is a waste!!!!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Lois, My sister is in your boat. She's got HUGE boobs, she has to special order her bras. She is 33, and is planning a reduction. She has started having awful back pain. She wants to wait until her children (14 months and 4) are older. She doesn't have CF, but it is a MAJOR surgery and although it may be voluntary for you now, it might be necessary in the future. something you might have to face, a cosmetic surgen might turn you down for surgery. also, if you need a chest tube or transplant or anything like that in the future, implants may be a problem. I've heard of women in car accidents who need emergency surgery on their chest cavity and the docs remove the implants before doing anything else. The risk of leakage is too great a risk. Just make sure you educate yourself on AS MANY POSSIBILE PROBLEMS as you can so that you make a responsible decision. You're only twenty so remember that your body is still going to change.

I dont think they'd turn you down I think it all depends on how your cf is doing. Talk to your doctor and find out if your condition is well enough for getting that kind of surgery! good luck! and let me know how it goes cause I'd love to get implants too. lol

Just as a side note....I know that getting pregnant is something that CFers struggle with, but in the blessed chance that you do get pregnant...having implants or a reduction can interfere with your ability to nurse your infant.At this point, that may not even be an option for you...but i didn't think i wanted to nurse either....and i did and it was the most rewarding experience.Just wanted to give you something to think about.
