Hi. I have CF and I cant help but notice a slight oddity in the shape of my back.
Even if i try to straighten it AS MUCH AS I CAN it still looks a bit odd .
like its got a slight curve to it not right to left like some scoliosis ive seen in x ray pics in books but more of a curve that almost looks humped slightly.

Is this a trait for people with cf ? If it is or is not is there a way I can fix this?
Ive tried sitting up strait and good posture.... it still looks wierd to me.
Not many ppl have commented on it but my mom has before and it has made me very uneasy about taking off my shirt in front of ppl (even if they dont notice it and its not as bad as i think).

Just wondering what this is and if its fixable thx

Actually, the CFers lungs are much bigger than those of someone normal that is your size - it's called a barrel chest. I'm not sure why this happens, maybe because of the effort to breathe expands the lungs. There's nothing you can do about it, just something we have to deal with. I know when I have trouble breathing I hunch my shoulders, this probably makes us look even more hunched. I know when you get a lung transplant, they actually have to get lungs from someone slightly bigger than you so the lungs will fill the chest cavity. It sucks, just one more thing to make us look and feel different. I sure other people probably don't notice it as much as we do.

I too have noticed some people w/ CF having the slumped shoulders. When I cough, I tend to roll my shoulders forward just as part of the coughing process and I wonder if our excessive coughing makes us tend to be that way.
As a kid, my dad didn't let me me hunched over. Anytime he would notice me being hunched over he would say "Straighten your back up". So now I walk very straight from all of those years at home when dad harped on me!
