Dumb question but does anyone put their needles in a milk container? I heard that it was ok to put the needles in closed plastic container like a milk bottle but then what do you do with it? Put the lid on and throw it in the regular trash?
I get the red sharps containers but they always fill up too fast.....
thx

Years ago when our dog had diabetes and required insulin, we used either a sharps container or a plastic laundry detergent container, sealed with duct tape. That was as per the sanitation superintendent's instructions and probably 10 years ago. I live in a small suburb and it very well may have changed.

You can put them in a lg. plastic jug, put the lid on and throw them away-just like what you would do w/ the sharps container. FWIW I think that the idea is to be sure someone wouldn't get poked while dealing w/ your trash.

Our sanitation instructions are the same as Liza's. You put them in a milk jug or container and seal it with duct tape. Then put it in the regular trash. My family are huge coffee drinkers so what I often use is the empty coffee tub. You can cram more into those, lol.

I've been told you can put them in a laundry soap jug or similar thing like everyone else was talking about but I was told that if its in sharps container, you have to dispose of it as medical waste and can't put it in the trash, I ignore that little detail and put the full sharps container in the trash wrapped in a little duct tape. I always got sharps containers with my shipment of syringes and had quite the excess because I started using the insulin pens, and with the cap on it you can just toss the tips whenever and wherever you used it.
They always shipped me with a months supply like 100 syringes for just my levimir that I take once a day, so it all stacked up, but the copay for the syringes was included with the one for the insulin so it wasn't costing anything so it piled up
