when i was first learning to do my own shots, i used my stomach b/c it hurt the least and was easiest to reach. so i ended up really butchering my stomach and i think i created a lot of scartissue there. so now there are spots that KILL when i go them on my stomach. first question: is this because there is scar tissue there? and second question: what are some tips to prevent the trauma created when i give myself shots? i try to be gentle! thanks for your advice!

Hi Kate,
I give myself shots in my abdomen also . I used to do my legs and even a few times managed to reach around to my rear ( not easy considering you need both hands). I find when i do it in my legs i needed an extra unit of insulin, because the leg doesnt absorb as easily as the stomach area. So for the past few years i have been only using the stomach area. My best advice is to make sure you dont have any favorite areas, because then you will use them too often and it gets hardened underneath the skin. always rotate the spot, one day the bottom left side , next day the bottom right, next day the upper right, next day the upper left, then the middle left and middle right and so on. There are a lot of places on the abdomen to use. I used to never use under my belly button, but recently have started to. Anywhere on the stomach area that has enough fat to pinch up is a good spot. Eventually after not being used so often, the hardened areas beging to soften up again . Good luck

Kate - you use a pen needle right? That's a one hander, so you can easily inject into your butt. That's what I do. Like Diane also said - rotate on your stomach and don't pick a favorite spot. You can use all of your stomach below the belly button (the fleshy area), on your sides as well.
