This came up earlier but I just want to check because some people may have misssed it, my question is how often do you all check your needle on you finger pricking pen? Rokiss said every two days or so, how about everyone else? Thank you!
I was told that it should be changed after every use. That's what I did for the longest time, but lately I've gotten a bit lazy (I know - a bad thing), and I'm changing mine once a day. For anyone's FYI, here is a picture of a needle that it resused (this also goes for your lancets):
Always always always change the needle after one use, NEVER ever reuse a needle.
For reasons that liz's pictures showed, the needle becomes dull. Secondly, if after you use it the first time you brush it up against something (accidentally without even noticing) and then recap and reuse, you are putting yourself at risk of an infection (the blood touched something, and the blood clings to the needle with whatever you brushed it up against-YUCK!)
Oh dear, i have only been changing my lancets (I knew there was a word for them!) once a week, I din't know to change it every use! That means I'll be changing it four times a day!
With the needle wearing away, you also have to keep in mind that it can also fall off and stay under your skin as well (the tip of the needle), and re-using lancets and needles can cause bruising, pain, etc.
