cipro

Hello.

I've been on 750 mg of cipro twice daily now for about 13 days in conjuction with my IV meds. They recently stopped my IV meds cause I'm having some serious allergic/adverse reactions (tinnitus from amikacin and sob and wheezing from ceftaz - maybe). Anyway, they are keeping me on the cipro for another week. I am noticing lately that after each dose (for about the past 4 days or so), for about 3-4 hours after, I have horrid reflux. I feel/sound burpy and its hard to even take a deep breath cause I feel such terrible "gassy" heartburn.

Has anyone experienced this with cipro?? What gives???

I am taking it far apart from antacids and dairy, so feel I'm following the precautions as much as possible. I also think it odd its just starting to happen after about 10-11 days of being on it. Urgh....

It is odd that you are just starting to have issues, but then again I find that we need to expect the unexpected.

Have you eaten anything when taking them? It might just be as simple as that! Avoinding dairy etc is not to avoid stomach upset, but rather to avoid decreasing the affectiveness of the abx!

i knew the dairy was cause of effectiveness (same as not taking tums, etc. within 2-6 hours of it). i have tried to eat with cipro or not eat. one site i found on side effects said its best to take cipro an hour or two after eating so it gets fully absorbed, but i haven't read that anywhere else and i see the side of the bottle says to take with or without food. maybe i'll try to take with food for the next couple times. its funny though, all the foods i usually eat with meds (yogurt, cheese sticks, milk, cereal) are dairy!!! urgh. i never realized how much dairy i eat!
