Claritin?

My doc just prescribed Claritin for me to ease my sinuses, I have never been able to go on allergy meds because I always feel dried out from them. My center assured me that CF patients have no trouble with allergy medication and it only dries out your sinuses - it has no affect on the lungs.Well, I took it for two days and noticed I had trouble getting my coughs out, I felt dried out and my peak flows went down significantly. Oddly - my joint problems felt better.Has anyone had trouble with allergy meds drying out their lungs? I want to make sure it's the Claritin and not me.Thanks!Piper

My doctor Rx allegra for me once & I was real apprehensive about it too, so I called the CF Pharmacy & the pharmacist I talked to said for a couple weeks it was fine, but not as maintenance for a long period of time. I assume Claritin is kind of he same medicine?I'm always nervous about those type of things too=)

I am on Zyrtec these days, ( a little over a year now) seems to be ok. I used to take claritin in the past, but it stopped working for me after a while. I know my doctor told me not to take the sudafed too long, just as needed, but nothing has been mentioned about other allergy medicines being a problem. I HOPE not, because my alergies can get annoying this time of year<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0"> ~Diane 39 / cf / diabetes / b.cepacia

My daughter 2 1/2 is on Zyrtec (2x's a day) and Singular (at bedtime only). Have you talk to your doc about Singular? It is suppose to help with allergies and asthma. Which she was tested for asthma (very mild) and waiting on the results for the most common allergies. Also uses a nasal spray everyother day. Seems to do better now that she's getting older but who in this world does not have some kind of allergy/asthma/and whatever else symptoms (haha) with or without CF.Ang

Did you dr. rx claritin or claritin D. Claritin is an antihistamine and Claritin is an antihistamine and decongestant.

They put me on Claritin D which I was concerned about because I know if I need Robitussin or something like that - I'm not supposed to use anything with a decontegestant in it.Is the regular Claritin ok?
