I was reading there are classes of mutations, ie: class one, two, three, etc. Where can I find more information re: classes?? This is news to me, my Docs never told me about this??
Thanks,
Joan

The classes run from one to five, one being the most severe and five being the least, based on how the protien is or isn't created, and what the problem is. Mutation is only one part of the Cf puzzle, but it can't be ignored either.

Ry was a W1282x , a type one, and a Deltaf508 , a type two.

People with 4 and 5 tend to have less digestive problems, or be pancreatic sufficient.

I wonder - my CF affects primarily my digestive tract, with minor lung problems. I wonder if that would still make my class severe, or because I have very minor lung problems - I would be a more mild version? I'm going to have to talk to my doc about this.

Class information seems to be hard to find, but I found this little bit of information:
<a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.cysticfibrosismedicine.com/CFdocs/CFText/gene.htm
">http://www.cysticfibrosismedicine.com/CFdocs/CFText/gene.htm
</a>Scroll about halfway down the page, and there's a little chart of the 5 classes and what each one means.

I see only a chart that relates the genotype and its prevelance. It there one I'm missing? What class is double-DF508, if there is one?

The D stands for the Greek Delta. I don't believe it means double, though I'm not sure why it is Delta. But you might have two DF508s, or just one and some other variation.
