Clinic Appointment

We went for the annual work-up yesterday. Maggie had been doing really well, I thought. Last week she caught a nasty virus(my husband has it too). Cough/fever for two days then cough/runny nose since. We had upped her treatments to 4 times a day, upped her albuteral. Her energy was good/color good/appetite good, but I knew that I wanted her on antibiotics when I brought her into the clinic. This is the first time, I'm aware of that her lungs sounded wheezy. She did not sound audibly wheezy to me at home. The doc put her on prednisone for 5 days and antibiotics for 2 weeks. We cultured her (got a good one) and we'll change things if she grows something different(praying she doesn't).

She had a CXR, bloodwork. I've actually seen maggie be sicker so this took me off guard, the wheeze in her lungs. After albuterol/VEST the wheeze was very little. Her O2 sat was only 92-95% in the office. I'm hopig we caught this nasty bug in time. I need to send my husband the doc too since his has been lingering and coughing.

Maggie's weight was good and height was good though. Just feeling down and hating CF bigtime.

So we spent a long time in clinic yesterday and it was my birthday too, 35, kind of a bummer of a birthday

Just thought I'd let you know I sympathize. My 4 year old is in exactly the same boat right now. Actually, his CF doctor thought he might have RSV; every kid in his preschool class came down with a similar bug during the last week of classes. I'm waiting for last week's culture results, but we're basically doing the anti-pseudomonas routine regardless since he's cultured it off and on before...welcome to summer, eh?

and happy belated birthday to you.

RSV crossed my mind too. Though they did not test her for it, another neighborhood child has the same thing, cough sounds like maggie's. Arg. So, we'll wait for the culture. Treating her staph and hoping her MRSA doesn't show up, we're waiting for culture report first before putting her on stuff for MRSA. Feeling worried.

I'm sorry it was such a bad visit, Rebecca. CF sucks!! I do hope you caught the bug early and that the meds will help her. Nothing worse than expecting a great clinic and getting disappointing news.
