Clinic Visit Today

Today I went to my doctors appt and my doc finally put me on Hypertonic Saline! I guess once it was approved he was singing a different tune about it. (if you remember, last time he wouldnt give me HS because he didnt believe in it). They put me on 7% Sol, twice daily. The thing is, they didnt tell me where to put the HS in my treatment line up. Right now I do Albuterol (tobi mixed in when on it, they said this is okay to do) and DNase. I am guessing I would do HS after Albuterol, before DNase but not sure. And second, they didnt say what kind of neb cup to use. Would I use a regular neb or Pari Neb (i think I read somewhere that you use Pari)? and if its a Pari Neb, can u clean the one used earlier for Tobi or does it need its own separate one? I am currently trying to get in contact with my clinic to see what they say, but I was wondering what ya'll do.

btw my appt went great. My pfts were up by 2% and they said I am stable (my pft are in the lower 30s, hopefully HS will help with that). I gained 3 lbs, so now I am at 115lbs! They also want me to try ADEKs Vit. I need to start back excercising, but other than that they were happy.

I do the following line-up:

Albuterol
H.S.
Pulmozyme
Colistyn (if on it)

I've heard you should'nt mix anything with TOBI. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I use PARI for HS. I also think its ok to use the same nebs for the different meds and HS as long as cleaned and boiled in between. I've been trying to contact PARI via these boards for over a week with a similar question and they have not responded.

Great checkup Danyell!!! My doctor told me to do albuteral first (two puffs), next pulmozyme, and then the HS last. With the HS I use the Pari LC Plus neb cup. If you are confused about what order to take the meds just call and ask the cf nurse at your clinic. I think the HS is great and I hope it brings your PFT's up higher.

THis is how I do mine nebs:

Albeuterol/Pulmicort (open up the airways)
Pulmozyme (thin the mucous)
HS (moisten the mucous, but mainly makes me cough it up)
Vest (if I didnt already cough out half a lung with the HS)
Advair (for additional airway opening)
TObi (obvious reasons)


***It would be a waste of TObi if you did it before your coughing is mostly done. You would cough up what you took in & it wouldnt treat any bacteria. If in doubt check with the office so its not a waster of time!
