Compressors for nebulizers

I'm hoping that people have had experience with compressors and can give me some consumer feedback. I've been using the proneb ultra for a while now, but I want to make sure that there isn't a better option available for me. Based on current med expense accounts, cost is really not an issue at all, so I want to take advantage of this and get myself into the right set of nebulizers.

Specifically, I'd love to identify a compressor which is either quieter and/or quicker at administering the drugs for use at work. the ultra is alright, but it is pretty loud and I would love to have a quieter option to keep my secretary guessing as to how i'm feeling that day. Right now she knows if I'm feeling a bit draggy that day, because she hears more treatments. I know this may sound silly, but it's important to me and would really make my happy even if it is silly!

Additionally, if there is a compressor with a battery pack option out there which can admin Pulmozyme, I would love to get my hands on one now... If not a battery pack option, than one that's even smaller than the pari?

I'm thinking that there might be some clinical or hospital models that I've never thought of before because of cost, so I want to strike while I can. I have almost six grand in reimbursable med-related expenses which I have to use up by the end of September or I lose them. I'm planning on loading up on neb cups, but getting some really top-notch compressors could be of real value too...

I'm a little tight on time, but the program the money is in will reimburse even if I'm getting it from a European distributor, so let me know if there is something cool on the other side of the pond that will ship to New England.

Hell, if you've had a BAD experience with a compressor, I'd love to hear that too to help me make these decisions.

I just got a PariTrek. It's lightweight, powerful, and the travel case makes it inconspicuous when I pack, which is good since I travel every other month for work.
http://www.pari.com/products/pariTREK.html

that link takes you to a product description of the compressor I have. I'm really pleased with it. It's not too loud and has an adaptor so you can do it in the car if you don't want to make the noise in your office That's what I do. I'm not on pulmozyme, but my doc has given the "thumbs up" to using pulmozyme in the pari LC plus nebulizer.

I would stay aware from the tiny, ultra sonic compressor/nebulizers. They look cool but aren't (from what i read) a good thing to use with some meds. DeVilbiss is equipment I have used in the past and was not impressed. Too loud, too heavy, and hard to clean. It also had a lousy battery life on the portable version.

I hope that helps!

PARI Trek is NOT approved for Pulmozyme use!!!!!!!!

It still shocks me how many CFers don't know this.

Particles are not small enough to deposit in the lungs.

PARI ProNeb Ultra is what I use. Although I replace it every 3 years (they lose efficacy over time).

Please please please avoid the PARI Trek.

I use an Inspiration compressor. Its not super quiet, but then again its not really that loud either. I like it, because it handles easy i.e. transporting, and it only takes me about 15 mins to do TOBI.

I like Devilbiss compressors. The Pulmo-aide which is the only compressor approved by Chiron for use with TOBI

I had a Proneb Ultra by PARI and it died in less that a year....it also took longer than the devilbiss.

I have a PARI Trek and like it. Great for travel, powerful little compressor. I don'r use it at home but I figure when I'm away its better than not doing the treatments at all and just because it isn't approved for use with some medicine doesn't mean it won't deliver it...just that they haven't tested it. And its better than missing treatments while I'm gone cause I don't lug my huge devilbiss with me everywhere!

Is the inspiration approved for drugs based on particle size?

Anyone know where to find stats that actually show the particle size that the various compressors are capable of making?
