Considering Natural Supplements

Hey everyone. I know that this was a topic that has been visited many times before but after a long bout with a very resistant psuedomonas strain that is still flourishing in my body I am thinking about starting some natural supplements in addition to all my regular routine.

I think Faust is the guy I am looking for but I would love to hear from everybody that has experimented with supplements. I am just wondering if someone can fill me in on oregano oil, turmeric caplets, and GSH. I have read past posts about the benefits of these items and I was wondering where everyone purchases theirs, brand names that seem to be the best, and what dosage I should probably start with.

Right now, I have 3 strains of PA one that is extremely drug resistant and my FEV1 finally rose to 50% after 8 weeks of i.v.s. My baseline is 57-60% so I still have a ways to go and I am hoping these supplements might help me gain some FEV1 ground. Thanks everyone!!!

Specifically:
<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Mucoid pseudomonas is more likely to grow in a Mg-deficienct host. Additionally, the mucoid PA will likely be resistant to aminoglycoside antibiotics (i.e., gentamycin, tobramycin, amikacin). Studies suggest this is reversible when Mg-deficiency is reversed (and it did prove reversible in my son, eventually even eliminating mucoid PA). </end quote></div>

I have found three things that have helped me.

1)Like MichelleGazelle said, Magnesium is great--I found that my airways were less tight and Pulmozyme worked better since I started this.

2)I do the H2Orega drops (oil of oregano) when I am sick. I have gotten over three major sinus infections without antibiotics by using this under my tongue several times a day. I have also tried putting it in my nasal irrigation solution.

3)Effervescent NAC-I have been using this twice a day now for a while and my last three visits I have had significant increases in my PFTs. I think this is helping me alot!

I use oil of oregano. I mostly use it for fungal stuff. For example, I take s bunch of it before cleaning up the mildew that periodically grows on the poorly insulated (thus often damp) windows in my apartment. I also take it for certain kinds of lung infections. It is very effective against some strains of stuff that can cause pneumonia. I can't tell you specific organisms. I heard this somewhere and I have had good luck with it, like when someone at work was saying "My chest hurts so bad. I hope I'm not coming down with pneumonia." Yeah, I left early that night and the next day went and got oil of oregano before work. I usually take a lot more than what I have heard is a "recommended dose". I have heard that if you get the eye-dropper thingy, you are supposed to take something like 3 to 7 drops a day. I take an entire dropperful in the morning and another half-dropper to full dropper later in the day if I feel I need more. Warning: when I have the kind of infection that OOO kills, taking the oil form burns my mouth. For that reason, pills might be more tolerable.

I have also been using olive leaf extract as an herbal antibiotic. But I don't think the herbal antibiotics (or allopathic drugs either) are really enough by themselves. I think you also need to rebuild your body nutritionally so it has the strength to fight back.
