<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">I have a problem/concern. On Wednesday night I was rushed to the hospital due to sharp "OH MY GOD!!!!" pain in my stomach!!! I thought I was gonna die. They took x-rays and told me that I as all blocked up. They gave me some gross medicine(a laxitive) that was supposed to help but didn't. I have been in pain ever since then and have tried everything to help me go to the bathroom(to have a bowel movement), I've been drinking prune juice, taking Lactulose 2 times a day........and nothing really helps. I even took a suppository, all that did was ummm how can I say this without being gross......can't really........all it did was make me pee outta my butt. And to this day I still haven't really gone, well not enough to bring me any relief. Can anyone out there suggest something I can take or do to give me some relief? My family doctor isn't in til Monday and to get an appointment at the CF clinic is a wait.........Any ideas /help and what can I do so this won't happen again?Thankx......Gotta go gotta go gotta go right now!!!!

I know this will sound ridiculous, but its worth a try. Sugar free candy is made usually with maltitol , sorbitol, or lactitol, which has a laxative effect. They warn you on the label not to eat too much of it because of the laxative effect it will have . It may be worth a try. I found out that it is true ( by accident) and it cleaned me right out. If you are desperate,it may be worth a shot.~ Diane 39 / cf / diabetes / b.cepacia

I agree with Emily here, try an enema. You shouldn't have to go through pain until Monday. I do know from my position when I get all blocked up I go with out my enzymes for 1 whole day, but please understand a stomach ache will be with you for a couple days but it usually helps push out stuff and then you might get the ruins for a couple days. I would try an enema like Emily said. i wish you the best and hope something works soon for you.Angie 43 wCF

I'm not sure this works for adults but our cf clinic tell us to give our child mineral oil. I always give it at night before bed and the next day she is able to go. It is totally natural and just makes it easier on her.

Have your Dr. write you a prescription for GO-Lytely. (Silly name, beacuse it makes you GO HEavy!!!) anyway it's a gallon jug with powder and you fill it up with water. You have to drink 8oz every 10-15 mins i think until it's gone. I've had to do this a few times. Boy, does it work. You will have to by a bathroom for thenext several hours but you feel so much better. Caren

Mineral oil is dangerous to give to a CF person. I took it when I was younger to help with the constipation but as research unfolded - I was told to never take it - it gets in the lungs and is VERY unhealthy.

I've taken this too and laughed at the Go Heavily comment - it causes "peeing" out your rear as well so make sure you have a day set aside to take the Go Lytely - but it worked for me and you are allowed to take it for maintenance (once a month or so I think). Works like a charm.I had to go to the ER a few times for severe cramping to the point they had to give a pain shot - they took an X Ray and found I was literally impacted from top to bottom - they flushed me out (with an enema - was not a fun experience but it worked!) and I lost 8 pounds of, well, you know, out of my system.

I use Miralax once a a week and it keeps things flowing. I also eat foods often with natural laxitive properties. Coconut is a big one, drink the water and eat the meat, it'll clean ya out. If you have the interest, colonic irrigation can move alot of stuff out. I've never had it done, but my sister gets it done every few months.

Majority of my trouble when I was younger was w/ digestive problems an blockage.I've had to take 1/2 gallon Go-Lytely every 15 days since I was bout 15.(bout 9 yrs now)...I find it a very useful tool.Helpful hint...do it when you first wake up in the morning. That way most of your waste is allready moved lower.Byron 24w/C.F.Post Tx 1yr 3 months.
