Controversial: HBO & Polygamy

So, did anyone see the new HBO show called Big Love? It's about a polygamous family and I guess whatever daily issues they face.

HBO seems notorious for creating controversial shows that almost all end up doing very well. For example, 6 Feet Under was one and it happened to be one of my all-time favorite shows. Sopranos and the mob scene could be seen as controversial and especially Oz was not for the light at heart either. But this new show, Big Love, I just don't get. Polygamy I guess I have a tough time digesting and I wonder why or how this show will do well. Can anyone spread some light on polygamy? Eventhough polygamy is illegal that by no means equates people to not being interested in the concept. Just wondering how women out there can deal with the concept?

I like to try and see all sides of things, but with this, I don't get the woman's side. I get the man's side of it.

I've given you my opinion on it. Personally dealing with just one female long term is an exercise in masochism both physically and mentally (though mostly mentally) at times, I don't know why any man would want to endure that times 2 or 3 or more. It would be like what Jesus went through in the movie The Passion, but on a mental level. If i'm around my sisters (2), my fiance, my mom, and maybe a female friend of theirs for more than 30 mins while they all watch some chick flick, I get very annoyed (though most of it is due to my one sister in general). It's like estrogen female overload, hence why I spend so much time back in our room flyin solo. It's just not right for a guy to be surrounded by 5+ women for any period of time, it can drive them nutty <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">


As far as polygamy in general, most male (there are very few exceptions) life forms have a very strong desire to have sex with different females, and it makes very good sense on a level regarding the propagation of our species, and to ensure a clean gene pool. One of us (gender wise) had to be this way, it just came down to males for whatever reasons. This drive is deeply encoded in our DNA, but the active factor that keeps that drive going is testosterone, which is of course responsible for labido. They have done studies and found out that women who are overly promiscuous, all have extremely high levels of testosterone, which lends more credit to my point in general.


BTW before any women or PC males start beating on me and insinuate that im a mysogonist, I love women, but a guy has to be a guy and hanging around 5+ females for any period of time that are related to you, can really drive a guy bonkers. That's the only point I was making.
