coughing up what looks like blue lint

Lately for the last month and a half Kj has been cough up amongst her sputum, during a physio session, what looks like blue lint. it doesnt happen every physio though. It started off with 4 little blue dots. Then she has coughed up slightly larger ones every so often.

Kj even coughed one up during her hospital stay for
haemoptisis (sp) The doc told the nurse to swab it. I think they should have sent the whole thing off to be tested.

Kj's respiratory doc looked at us weird when we said she was coughing up blue stuff!!

any ideas? <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Hi there!

You should read down the adult forum posts to my recent post about aspergillus. My son has started growing it and I had some questions about it. I recieved many fantastic responses, one of which came from LightNLife who mentioned that she coughs up "blue fuzz" from her aspergillus allergy. I think reading that thread will give you great information, as well as the names of some people here who can help you with more questions.
Best of luck to you and your daughter! Please keep us posted on how she is treated and how she is feeling!
Thanks,

Yep, aspergillus is the first thing that came to my mind right away. I remember when i was diagnosed with an aspergilloma ( aspergillus fungus ball) my nurse told me another patient of hers had this, and coughed up blue fuzzy things so if it happens to me, ill know why. I am surprised your cf doctor has never encountered this before....

Thanks Tonya and Diane for your replies <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
I read LightNLifes post it was very helpful.

Kj very kindly managed to cough up 3 little blue things with her morning physio <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Kj had a docs appointment today so I bagged them up and told him to test it for aspergillus. He is a great doc and had no probs with this.

He was thinking maybe she inhaled fluff off of a blanket or something.

I said No, that as it is becoming more prevalent and she doesnt sleep with anything that has blue fluff, definitely no lol.

I am hoping against hope it isn't aspergillus.

For those that culture aspergillus, what do you cough up?

Is it something that can be gotten rid of?

also how bad is having aspergillus? How does it affect your lung function ect... ?

Thanks in advance <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

We will find out in a few days if she has it or not.
