Could this be blood from my lungs?

While I was emptying my dixie cup of mucus into the toilet after my treatment tonight I noticed blood. I took a closer look and the best way to describe it is a teardrop sized bit of fresh red blood surrounded by/mixed with mucus and with a half inch long tail of clear mucus trailing from it. The only thing I did differently tonight was I tried the Warwick improved cough a couple of times during my treatment along with the usual huffing and coughing. I did it with my vest compressing my chest and vibrating. Could that blood have come from my lungs or does that sound more like sinus gunk? My sinuses do feel raw and irritated from allergies but I don't see a nose bleed when I blow it.

Hey Bonnie,

it's possible you burst something while practicing the new technique.

doesn't sound like a lot of blood... if it looks like a teardrop i wouldn't worry about it. but if it's bothering you, EVER, call the doc and get his or her opinion.

i have called my doc 10+ times after agonizing whether or not to call, and every time i have called i've felt better. a few times i was overracting, a few times i wasn't. but that's job your doc's job!

take care.

Thanks for responding. My focus when doing something physically can be very intense because I was a ballet dancer. I probably just over did it. Oops. The technique does work for someone with much less than average CF mucus-I could feel it fly out of my lungs. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
