hey,

i wanted to share this with everyone and i hope that you will appreciate it even half as much as i do. in case any of you haven't been reading my blog for the last couple of months, i have been very very into the NHL playoffs this year as i watched my team, the Carolina Hurricanes, win four rounds of games and then the Stanley Cup. a few months back i heard something about how our team captain, the fabulous Rod Brind'amor, had raised a bunch of money for Cystic Fibrosis in Canada. i googled but wasn't able to find out anything.

until today. my boyfriend sent me this link:
Text

Brind'amor holds a golf tournament every summer to benefit CF. he raises a bunch of money. a few days after the canes won the championship, he played in the tournament and took the cup up to his home town in western canada. the link shows pictures of him showing off the cup.

AND, as if that is not cool enough, i found out that he auctioned off his Game 7 jersey from the Stanley Cup finals for $16,000--and gave the money to cystic fibrosis. what a great guy. and it's cool to feel this connection to a local celebrity sports hero.

ps--if anyone (espcially from canada) has heard anything about brind'amor or why he became involved in cf fundraising, please let me know!

My understanding is that Kim Black from Campbell River, the girl in the black and white photo with him, is the one who got Rod working with CF.

That's pretty cool, my mom was a Hartford Whaler fan and now a huge Hurricanes fan. I went to Game 7 of the Conference Finals against Buffalo, it was great.

I love the Mike Commodore Team wigs Used to play for our alma mater (UND) and we loved watching him play.

On a side note, last year I read an article that mentioned a Denver University player with CF. Found a reference in an article, but no name or info on the player. Any ideas? Liza

anonymous, i realize the photo of kim black said she was the one who got him involved. i was more wondering if she was a family member or just a friend or maybe even a stranger who managed to get his attention somehow.

shinkdew, that's awesome that your mom is a big hockey fan! i was also at the buffalo game 7--very exciting. do you live near raleigh?

ratatosk, it has been fun having commodore on the team. we are lucky to have gotten him this year. our fans have gone crazy with the wigs and robes. kind of funny but it adds something to the games definitly. oh, are you caleb's mom from the cysticfibrosis2chat site?
