i'm always told to keep and eye on my feet but i rarely do. i think i just realized that i really don't like taking care of my feet! i mean, i want them to be there for me and all but... i guess i have this dream that one day i could afford to get pedicures regularly enough that those people could keep an eye on my feet.

what do you guys do?

in the past i have used pumice stones, but i am awfully forgetful to use it in the shower. i also love love love burt's bees coconut foot cream. it is thick like petroleum jelly. you put it on your feet before bed, put socks on, and in the morning your feet feel smooth as silk! i should do it more often but...i just forget! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

I dont take care of my feet and when I have had pedicures they do/use slightly different things for a diabetic. Actually looking at my feet now...they really could use a pedicure. I am a bad one for walking around with no shoes on. Thats the country girl in me!

I do actually take care of my feet and I know the only reason I do is because I take care of a lot of diabetic patients who have had to have amputations because they didn't take care of their feet.

I have seen such horrible foot and leg ulcers related to diabetes that it scares me..

We were taught to teach our patients to check their feet daily because of the diabetic neurpathy... We tell obese ppl to put a mirror on the floor and hang their foot over it so they can check for sores on the bottom of their feet.

I get pedicures every two weeks, but I bring my own stuff for them to use.. I don't let them cut my toes, only file, etc.. I have to be really careful because not only do I have diabetes but I take steroids so I don't heal well at all.

I have that Berts Bees Foot lotion, I am going to put some on tonight to try it...

I also use the diabetic nursing shoes... Crocs RX shoes, I just ordered a pair of Danskos as well. I don't wear narrow of pointed shoes...

Gee if I could be this neurotic about the rest of my care..

I know this may be a really dumb question, but I never understood what to look for when they tell you to watch your feet for any problems. I just assumed that it would be something blatantly obvious that I couldn't help but notice.

That being said I do take care of my feet, not so much for diabetic reasons as for the fact that I wear sadals ALOT. I use a pumice stone type thing on my feet every few days when I am showering. I repaint my toenails every week or two and push back my cuticles as needed and cut my toenails as needed.

If I have any cuts or anything I just watch them to make sure they heal properly.

Lindsey they want diabetics to be careful with their feet because diabetics can get something called neuopathy.. A loss or decreased sensation, usually in the feet or arms. So it is possible to have a cut or a sore on your foot and not notice or feel it and because of the decreased circulation it is real hard for the wound to heal...Of course using the pumice on your feet requires you to look at them, so you should be okay.

Just something to be mindful of.

jenn--

Dansko's rock!

also, from time to time for years i notice decreased sensation in my fingers or feet. it does seem to come and go though. is this bad? there's nothing you can do besides control your sugars, right? and also my hands and feet get really cold in the winter so i already know i have decreased circulation.
