different mucus' at different times?

is your muscus different from when you wake up to when u go to bed? i notice that i usually cough up (it's gross) like a hard "plug" thats small in the morning, then its looser as the day goes on, maybe because i've been running around all day. and do you cough it up everytime you cough throughout the day? once in a while a tiny piece comes up during the day, but sometimes its just a dry cough. what about you?
