so the hubby and i are completely fed up with our cable company. they expensive as all get out. we just added internet to our account and only two of our cable jacks in the house work. i went into the cable company to find out why and this is what i was told. when they came out in the beginning to set up our cable box we only had two tvs to hook up. so those two jacks were activated. come to find out if we want additional jacks activated we would have to pay 29.99 for the first jack and then 10 for every other jack we would want activated. i call this taking advantage of customers. we were never told this in the beginning. this would explain why in the beginning that when i tried to rearrange the living room i couldn't becaue there is only one jack that works. so we are now considering canceling our cable and going to direct tv or dish network. my question is if any of you have it how do you like it. does it go out on you when you have a storm? and does anyone have internet through direct tv or dish network? any info is appreciated! thanks guys!

We've had both -- we started with direct-tv, but then switched to dishnetwork because there were some channels -- WB and UPN that at the time direct-tv didn't carry. I think they're pretty much the same nowdays.

When we switched to dishnetwork, they had some sort of installation deal where you could get up to 4 receivers hooked up for free provided we signed up for a long term contract. We had tv in our bedroom, family room, living room and DH had one out in his shop. We;re big tv fans and have most channels, premium (HBO) and dvr...

You can look online and see what type of programming they have. We had separate internet service through our phone company, so have no idea what it runs thru the satellite companies. Though I see dishnetwork has been advertising wireless and I've wondered about it because my inlaws still have the dish, but rely on dial-up service at home and thru the cable compan at their vacation home.

We DID recently switch back to cable because a new company came to town and offered real deal if we bundled our broadmband internet, phone service and tv and we saved about $80 a month.

As far as service going out -- did have issues if we had a particularly nasty thunderstorm -- but then we'd usually watch something we'd already recorded on the dvr. And a couple times if we had wet heavy snow and it hit the dish just right -- we'd have to brush it off. But those times were very few and far between.
