Disability and Hospital Indemnity Insurance

julie

I know it's been mentioned on here before, but I was hoping some people could list companies that they have PRIVATE disability and hospital indemnity insurance through.

State farm is not an option for me as they know I am pregnant already and I can't get disability coverage for when I go on bed rest.... but I am looking for any other companies.

Also, I will be spending time in the hospital and want to research indemnity insurance... I know there is a waiting period, I just want to research how long.

Thanks,

I am pretty sure there is a waiting period of at least 9 months when it comes to pregnacy claims, at least that was what I have seen. ie AFLAC.

Check out Physician's Mutual Insurance: 1-800-228-9100.

I had to wait 12 months for my "CF" related hospitalizations to be accepted, but not sure for other "conditions". I think they will pay me $35 or so for everyday I'm in the hospital, but I pay $12 a month for it. Not sure that's what you're looking for, and I haven't used them yet, but I heard this from another CFer who used it a lot.

Thanks sonia, and the anon. poster. I figure if anyting, I will just look into it. I realize now (isn't hindsight great) that we should have done this before getting pregnant, since we were trying. If anything, I find out the waiting period is too long and I don't apply for benefits.

If anyone else has anything, I welcome it, I want to check it all out.

Thanks,

Julie....my policy thru Combined Life includes pregnancy as a pre existing condition. No special clause for it. It also shows something that might apply to you. I dont know if all policies/companies have this so I thought I would mention it.

Covergae Suspended while in Military:
This policy will be suspended if and when the insured enters active military service (including members of any reserve component of the US armed forces including the National Guard) for any country or internatinoal authority other then for training that lasts less than 60 days. Any premium paid beyond the date of suspension will be refunded. if the insured is released from military service within 5 years of the entry date, this policy will be reinstated without proof of insurability, on the same basis as before suspension took place, without restriction as to pre existing conditions except those applicable on the date coverage was suspended (in no even will the sum of any pre xisting condition limitation imposed prior to and subsequent to the period of suspension exceed one year), upon notice to Combined and payment of the premium within 180 days from relese. The policy will be reinstated retroactive to the termination date of active duty.

Thanks Melissa, very interesting. I will continue getting my military pay (thankfully) but I do have another job on the side and that's what I would use the $$$ for because I won't be able to do that job and bring in that income while on bed rest. I'll have to look into it.

Nothing yet Sonia. I left some messages this thursday/friday so I imagine I'll hear back this coming week.

Good luck, Julie!
I hope something works out for you! I think physician's mutual doesn't care if you're military going to an MTF or anything.... the other Cfer who told me about it ONLY went to a military hospital and never paid out of pocket anyway, so she used the "income" to help pay her bills while she wasn't working. It came in very handy. Anyway, please keep me posted!

We have disability policies through UNUM and Principal Financial
Group.  They are locked in my safe, so I don't have access to
the language.  I would venture to guess that your pregnancy
will be pre-exed on any policy.  I am a huge believer in
disability insurance.....The general population is much more likely
to become disabled at some point during their career than to
die.<br>
