dry sore throat before cold?!

I'm still not feeling 100%, but better than yesterday.
I had gotten a dry and somewhat sore throat a few times in the morning when I woke up last week, but it lingered on all day Friday. It soon turned into a dry cough, followed by congestion and sinus drainage. I tried to get some rest on Saturday, but had a busy day the next day.
I probably had gotten a fever on Sunday, but ran through the day with it, only being able to sleep a bit here and there.
I eventually felt better later that day, but by the next day (today), the coughing seemed to become more productive, and I've been wheezing more often than the day before.
My ears had been bothering me, too, having noticed peoples pitch in their voice seemed to change and my ears would tend to pop. My sinuses also seemed to "crackle" on Saturday when I was trying to get some rest. The "Crackling" seemed to continue into the next day, and even today happens on occasion.
My sense of taste and smell would go on and off, but currently it feels like mucous had plugged up my sinuses (because I can breath through my nose most of the time) and chest because I keep having to blow my nose and I need a tissue everytime I cough. And, yes, I had night sweats since last week, but it was intermittent.
This seemes so familiar to me, with the symptoms I had last year in September after I got home from an exhausting business trip.
I'll blog about the events in fuller detail when I can...

What you're describing sounds very familiar to me. A sore throat in the morning can be a result of postnasal drip happening all night. When you have postnasal drip and mouth breathe while sleeping, it causes an irritated, sore throat and sets the stage for secondary infection or overgrowth of your bug(s). Do you have allergies or has anything in the environment you are sleeping in changed (air temperature, etc)? I ask that because getting it after a business trip last year makes sense, as you slept in a hotel room (dust, fragrances on the carpet, dry air).

Bummer Fred. Yes, I've had the dry throat, etc. when I've caught a cold. Usually those are the worst ones . Do you have a sinus rinse kit (like a neti pot?) That will help get you unclogged? Sometimes an occasional Sudafed will help me too (like one every other day- too drying for everyday for me ). I hope you are feeling better soon!

Thanks for the replies,

The sinus thing had been on-going for a few months, but the sore throat happened twice in the past two weeks, and last Friday is when it hit the hardest. Other than the weather changing these days, nothing much in the environment had changed...the allergy season had actually been coming to a close when the second sore throat occured.
My job had become more demanding, therefore a bit harder on me.
I had done a few sinus rinses with what's available in Japan, which is pretty darn strong stuff, and I think Sudafed is on their list of illegal drugs...besides, I had to drive practically all day Sunday, so any drug that caused drowsiness was out of the question.
However, since I don't always do a sinus rinse...I think I'll go do that before I go to bed tonight, I woke up with a bit of a sore throat again this morning!
