enzymes for foods with carbs etc

ok, so everyone knows the story about enzymes and fat of course. but, what about carbs? enzymes are needed to break those down too but for some reason no one ever focuses on that. so should we be taking enzymes for foods with minimal fat but alot of carbs in them? just trying to figure out why i get bloated to the point that it hurts after i eat and why nothing will digest properly. i eat alot of foods that dont have much fat in them but have alot of carbs so it makes me wonder. perhaps i should be taking a small amount of enzymes with those sorts of foods?

I think my dietician told me enzymes aren't needed for carbs... or maybe it was just certain carbs.... anyway, I found a site that talks about the three different enzymes: http://www.pccnaturalmarkets.c...ealth/Supp/Enzymes.htm

hmm. well, im going to start taking them with carbs then. i think its a bit careless of dieticians and docs saying to only take them only with fat.

Hi there,

Your pancreas also secretes an enzyme called 'amylase' which breaks down carbs, so if someone has pancreatic dysfunction they also run short on amylase so carbs may not be broken down as well. If you look at your Creon bottles, you will notice that apart from Lipase (enzyme for fat) they also contain amylase.

So, it's important to take your enzymes w carbs also, you may not need as many enzymes as when eating foods w high fat (probably because carbs begin to be broken down in the mouth by our saliva and that fat is only able to be broken down by lipase), but you still need them.

Other than that, eating too many carbs is notorious for causing bloating, CF or no CF. I don't eat breads / pasta anymore for that reason, I also have a gluten intolerance and end up looking like a beach ball (mind you, there was a stage in my life where I would eat something like 12-14 slices of bread a day..... ooh, the pain...dxon't miss it at all).

Hope that helps Kylie.
