Florida clinics & hospitals

We are moving to Florida because the Atlanta Adult CF clinic/hospital is going through some very unpleasant changes (I hate Emory hospital!).

Can anyone recommend Gainsville or Jacksonville clinics or hospitals? The hospital CFers are admitted to is almost more important to me than the clinic as I am admitted at least once every three months. I need to make an appointment and just don't know if I should go to Gainsville or Jacksonville. Thanks for your help guys!

Hi there....I'm assuming you are talking about an adult clinic, correct??

Our (Jacksonville) adult clinic is fairly new. We have Dr. Anthony Malanga, he is head of the clinic, it is called PACCA, Pulmonary and Critical Care Association. He came here from Boston, I believe. Is a very well known Doc. from up there. He started this clinic here. He has his right hand nurse, Ronnie Wetmore, RN,MS, who also came down with him to get it started. They are both AWESOME! I love them both and Zoe is only 4. They use St. Vincent's Hospital on the river. Since St. Vincent's wasn't used to dealing with cf'ers, it has been a major adjustment for them. Apparantly, they have a lot of great things planned. I do know that Dr. Malanga has an aggressive treatment plan of doing i.v.'s every 3 months. Ronni lost her 2 brothers to cf, so she is very involved. She comes to our monthly cf support group meetings. Dr. Malanga, his wonderful wife, and Ronnie all came to the Moonlight Martini's for CFF that I wrote about in one of my recent blogs. They are very dedicated.
Anyways, hope this was helpful!

Take care,

So, even though it's a new clinic for adults you would recommend the Jacksonville one? The hospital too or really just the doctor/clinic?

That is great if so because it's a 40 minute drive vs. an hour and a half for Gainsville. We are moving to St. Augustine.

I have two main concerns about choosing which CF clinic to go to. One, because of the current CF Adult Clinic situation in Atlanta I have been admitted to a hospital that is not use to dealing with CFers and I believe it's had a negative effect on my health. With my highest PFT's only running 36% now I don't have time to let a hospital/clinic get thier programs and such up and running.

Second, I want the hospital/doctor I see to have experience with the more serious aspects of CF as I'm getting into territory I'm unsure of now.

Thanks for your help Jada and I absolutely love your daughter's name!

If there is anyway possible, try to get ahold of coltsfan aka Lindsey. She has been to both. She would be able to answer those questions the best. I feel like Malanga is an awesome doctor. But, like you said, the hospital situation is fairly new (2 years I believe). Try Linds....

Thanks about Zoe's name....it is Greek, means LIFE.

Take care,
