I was wondering if anyone knew of any place( buisness, organization, charity, etc) that would provide a new wheelchair for an adult with CP and CF?
Here's the situation. The current wheelchair this person uses he got when he was 13 and he is now 19 so you can imagine how much he has outgrown the chair. In 2005 we asked for a stroller so we could push this young man outside (places his wheelchair can't go like sand) and received one in May of 05. Well no one told us that if we got the stroller that he couldn't have a new wheelchair or we never would have accepted the stroller. It seems Medicaid deems a stroller as a mobility device and will only allow one mobility device per five years. This does not make one bit of sense since his wheelchair is specifically molded to fit him and the stroller was to be used on a limited basis, it's not crash test certified so he can not be transported to school with it, and it doesn't have a molded back that he requires and he can't wheel the stroller like he does his chair so yes we did appeal Medicaids decision and the appeal was denied. We have appealed again to Circuit court and 6 months later still haven't heard anything and after a CF appointment with his doctor we learned it is crucial he gets into a proper seating system so any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.
